Soccer over the Internet - England Receives the World Cup
England could have failed to win in the true 2010 South African World Cup, however they won the World Cup in a virtual tournament hosted by Football Superstars, this was a massively multi-player game (MMO). At least England football fans still possess something to celebrate.
England was given the World Cup!! - No, it isn’t the real World Cup; everybody knows how the England football team crashed out of the real World Cup in South Africa against Germany, but the virtual team taking part in the Football Superstars MMO game managed to go all the way. The virtual German v England match happened in the group brackets, with the virtual team managing to come out with a 1-1 draw, a much better result than the 4-1 loss in South Africa. The German team just was not able to recover from the loss and saw themselves out of the tournament in the group stages after being unable to defeat the Ukraine, losing 2-1 in a close match. Getting to the Semi Finals, England were forced to deal with Portugal, a team they now have a history with - thanks of earlier questionable actions in matches, England were feeling good thanks to the 9-1 win over Lithuania in the Quarter Finals. England started well and went on the offensive; the game was decided in the midfield where England managed to hold onto the ball for longer than the Portuguese, eventually creating more opportunities and scoring 4 goals, while only letting in 2 themselves. The score ended 4-2, and England were going to the final. The final was wish Russia and began well for the English; in less than one minute, a goal was taken from the Russians without much of a defense. In the end, after an exhausting game, the final whistle blew, and for the first time, England were the World Cup Winners for the Football Superstars MMO fantasy football games. CyberSports Community Manager Andrew Ruddick commented on the event, claiming it had been a great success. It was the most successful ever hosted, and thanks to great organization and the dedicated teams, there were some wonderful close games and surprising results. He finished by thanking everybody who participated in the event and congratulated the England team for the skillful level of play they had shown throughout the tournament. There may be more tournaments held later on this year.
