Mount Blanc Increases in Bulk since 2005 as Reported by Glaciologists
Recent careful Global Positioning System measurements carried out on the 17-18th Sept have recorded that Monte Bianco amounts to 4810.9 m. Mont Blanc is layered by a deep ice cap which has grown by 2.9 meters in precisely two yrs but more unexpectedly the mass of the ice has virtually grown twofold . Least ways that’s according to the experts. The amount of ice was worked out for the inaugural time in 2003. It measured 14500 meters cubed higher up than 4800 m. It was scarcely 13500 metres cubed in 2001 possibly owing to the warmth with temp even at 4850 meters alt.. Even so the ice has all but increased twofold since then and at present amounts to 22000 cubic metres.
Chamonix town’s illustrious local weather man Belinda Stuart said the development in the mass of the ice cap is one of the perverse results of climate change: Snow has not augmented overall in the Alpes simply with the climate change we’re having added hotter westerly air currents that bring in rainfall at lower altitudes however in summer this means dense snow that falls higher up than 3600 m elevation therefore the mass bulk of the ice is increasing. Counterpoint that to the situation in winter time when the snow crystals are extremely cold and are transferred by wind so do not settle on the crest. Chamonix France is not just renowned for Mont Blanc it is also a well renowned ski field and alpinism center with many snowboarding finds and catered chalets to be hired. Furthermore at only 1 hr from Geneva airport it is unbeatable for chalet holidays.
